Learning Goals
- Understand bone diseases and the effects of bones aging
Your Task
Working in groups of up to three people, use one library period to research one of the following diseases/illnesses/conditions involving the skeletal system. While researching the condition and becoming our class experts on the disease/illness/condition you should attempt to find:
- a description of the condition
- the signs (what an observer could see) and/or symptoms (how the sufferer would feel) of the condition
- how a person contracts the condition
- how the condition is treated
- whether the condition is preventable, and if so how?
- any other interesting information about the condition
Evaluation
You will be evaluated on the following:
Written/Typed Fact Sheet–submitted for marking with all relevant written skills addressed including:
- Spelling, grammar, titling, subsections /5
- Accuracy and relevance of information /5
- Creativity and visual presentation of sheet /5
Oral Presentation-date ______________
- 3-4 minutes long with effective use of class time and participation of all group members /5
- speaking skills–voice, eye contact, body language, confidence /5
- group effort and creativity in presentation /5
Total mark possible: /30

Books–search the library catalogue at the Library Learning Commons page, and browse the 610-17’s in the non-fiction collection here.
Databases are also searchable from the Library Learning Commons . For your topic areas, select the Gale PowerSearch. UNcheck the “select all”, and then scroll down to select just Health Reference Centre Academic and the Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine collections. In the EBSCOhost databases, good ones to use include HealthSource, and Science Reference Centre.
