Sabres,

It is my privilege and pleasure to serve as Southwood Secondary School Principal! I am proud to join a long list of administrators fortunate enough to work with staff who have delivered exceptional programming to Southwood students, both in and out of the classroom. In my time at Southwood so far, I have been deeply impressed with the sense of community and support that Sabre staff, students, and families show one another, and with the myriad of ways that our school supports Sabre students in reaching their goals.

I know that this year looks and feels different than any other year at Southwood, as our community contends with realities presented by Health and Safety measures aimed at containing the pandemic COVID-19. We are thrilled to welcome students back into our building, and to be able to get back to a school routine that is safe and fosters student learning, well-being, and success. We know our students and staff are up to the challenges that this unprecedented time presents, and we are delighted to be open and to welcome students once again!

Even though everything is different than we’re used to, I encourage all students to get and stay involved! Virtual clubs and groups are getting up and running while we are unable to host in-person extracurriculars, and our Leadership Council is actively working on planning activities that build our sense of Sabre community and belonging. Check us out on instagram ssswrdsb and southwoodleadership and twitter @ssswrdsb.

Parents and Caregivers, please continue to find detailed information on our school website and social media (listed above). We encourage you to join us for our School Council meetings (details about location/virtual meeting to follow). We value your input and perspective, and look forward to seeing you, whether in person or online!

While our traditional “meet the teacher” evenings are not possible during this time, we value the pivotal role you play in your child’s education, and encourage you to access each of your pupil’s virtual classrooms and to reach out to teachers at any time. Please call 519-621-5920 and follow the prompts. We know that together, we can ensure the most positive outcomes for all of our students.

Ms. Bistolas
