December 19th, 2025
On December 4, 2025, the Education Centre was filled with holiday cheer, teamwork, and pride as students in the Alternative Continuum of Education (ACE) program from Southwood Secondary School hosted a one-day Pop-Up Shop. The holiday market was an accumulation of weeks of hands-on learning and collaboration.Â
This project was designed to give students in the ACE program meaningful work experience within a safe and supportive classroom environment. All students participated in every step of the process, including sorting inventory, assembling the gift kits, creating tags and checking quality. Each student contributed to the Pop-Up Shop, showcasing their interests and strengths.

As desks were pushed together and assembly lines took shape, students practiced skills that extend far beyond the classroom. They learned how to work as a team, build patience, communicate with peers, and support one another while bringing joy and laughter to the process. Over time, many students gained confidence and took initiative, completing tasks and increasing independence.

This experience allowed students to see the full journey of work from idea to outcome. The responsibility, creativity, craftsmanship and collaboration led to a truly meaningful project. The Pop-Up Shop was not only a celebration of the holiday season, but also a celebration of the growth and achievements of the Southwood Secondary School students.
