We’re excited to host the second roundtable of this school year at Kitchener Collegiate Institute. The topic of this roundtable is the WRDSB Accessibility Plan. The topic will be introduced by Superintendent Jodi Albrecht & Human Rights Officer Esther Wainaina.

Superintendent Jodi Albrecht:

Superintendent, Jodi Albrecht, is one of two Learning Support Services Superintendents.  Jodi has responsibilities for Special Education, Student Mental Health & Well-Being, Alternative Education and Continuing Education.  She is a part of a number of committees and is the Lead of the Special Education Advisory Committee and Home Instruction/ILC, Co-Lead of PD Days and the School Year Calendar, and member of the Accommodation Steering Committee.  Jodi also has avid experience as a System Administrator in Learning Support Services. Prior to this, Jodi served as an Administrator Instructional Leadership Coach, was the Principal at Coronation Public School, and Vice-Principal at Stanley Park Public School. Before joining the WRDSB, she worked with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) as an itinerant teacher, classroom teacher, consultant and Vice-Principal.

Human Rights Officer Esther Wainaina:

Esther Wainaina is a Human Rights Officer and part of the Indigenous Equity and Human Rights department at the WRDSB. Esther works closely with the team at the Human Rights Branch in building a human rights culture across all WRDSB schools and work sites and in upholding the Ontario Human Rights Code. Esther’s scope of human rights work includes coordinating the implementation of accessibility guidelines and supporting the elimination of physical, attitudinal, technological, and systemic barriers experienced by students and staff with disabilities across all WRDSB sites. In addition to the Accessibility portfolio, Esther supports the review and alignment of WRDSB policies and procedures to human rights, equity, and inclusion foundations through the development, training, and implementation of the WRDSB Policy Review Guide.

Esther uses she/her pronouns and identifies as Black and an expatriate (newcomer) to Canada from Kenya.
