Dear students, parents, and caregivers,

Welcome to the Secondary Remote Learning Program (SRLP) for the 2022-2023 school year!

Chromebooks for Grade 9 Students

Grade 9 students and any students new to the WRDSB will pick up their Chromebooks from their home school. Please visit your home school’s website for details on Chromebook pick up.

Please pick up your Chromebook before September 6, if possible, so you are ready for the first day of class. You can also arrange to pick up your Chromebook on September 6, as needed.

The SRLP Daily Schedule

Time Period
8:15 to 9:30 a.m. Period 1 (A)
9:35 to 10:50 a.m. Period 2 (B)
10:50 to 11:50 a.m.
11:50 a.m. to 1:05 p.m. Period 3 (C)
1:10 to 2:25 p.m. Period 4 (D)

Some classes will follow a slightly different start and end time.
As a result of teachers balancing remote learning with in-person classes at their schools, some SRLP classes will need to follow a different schedule. Your child’s teacher will let you know the start and end times of each class. Afternoon teachers are aware that some students may need to be accommodated in the rare event that class times result in a shortened lunch break.

The First Day of Class

The SRLP is following a staggered start model to ensure that each student is able to access their virtual learning space.

September 6, 2022: Tech Check

Students will receive an email from each of their teachers with instructions about how to access their virtual classroom. Please follow your teachers’ instructions to access the virtual classroom, Brightspace. You may find instructions from your teacher that you can follow, once you successfully log in.

If you are unable to access the virtual classroom, please email your teacher by replying to the email they will send you.

If you encounter any issues that you aren’t able to solve, you can:

  • Email your teacher
  • If you are unable to reach your teacher by email, call the SRLP at 519-621-5920 and select 3 to reach the office

September 7, 2022

All students in Grades 9 to 12 will attend their remote classes on this day. Teachers will be online to welcome students, provide an overview of their course, and share what to expect.

In each class students will:

  • Attend each class (synchronously)
    • Students can join the class virtually at the appropriate time for each class
  • Meet their teacher
  • Confirm all of their technology is working
  • If you can’t get into the class for any reason, please email your teacher or call the SRLP at 519-621-5920 and select 3 to reach the office.

Logging In For the First Time

Follow these instructions to log in for the first time on September 6:

  • Login to Brightspace at 8:15 a.m. to access their first period (A) course.
  • The start date and time will show in Brightspace on the course icon.
  • Your teacher will have posted a link to a Google or Brightspace Meet, along with a time that it will begin.
  • Click on the Google or Brightspace Meet at the assigned time to meet your first period teacher and class.
  • Repeat the same steps for each of your classes

Getting Familiar with the Virtual Learning Environment

We encourage all Secondary Remote Learning students to gain familiarity with the WRDSB Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) platform called Brightspace prior to September 6. Visit our Getting Familiar with the Virtual Learning Environment web page to learn more about the VLE.
