Pickleball at Southwood.
For the past week or so the Phys-Ed Leadership class has participated in the Try day program offered by OFSAA. Try day, offered by OFSAA is a program that allows up to a $700 dollar grant for a school to purchase equipment that is needed to try a new sport. The requirements for this grant are they must introduce a new sport or physical activity to their current physical education program, must make activity available to students in multiple grade levels, must include the leadership component – minimum of six(6) student leaders in the planning and implementation of the Try Day event.
During our own Try day we ran the game pickleball. Overall, Pickleball was an amazing experience. The game is fast and fun. Our school is ecstatic that we will be able to play this game for many years to come, thanks to the generosity of OFSAA. I would recommend this worthwhile program to every other school: not solely for the chance to play a new sport, but because learning a sport together and teaching it to other classes was an incredible bonding experience for our class.
