The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) Trustees are excited to announce a new governance model for the 2025-2026 school year.
Regulatory reform to Ontario Regulation 463/97: Electronic Meetings and Meeting Attendance set new guidelines for mandatory attendance at meetings of Committees of the Whole. This meant that school boards in the province which used this structure had to review their governance models. In response to the new attendance obligations, the WRDSB Board of Trustees formed an Ad Hoc Committee to review the Board’s current committee structure and recommend a committee structure that would align with the new legislation while allowing the board to fulfill its legislative responsibilities. The new model was approved at the June 2025 Board Meeting and follows provincial expectations that maintain accountability and transparency.
In addition to continuing regular monthly Board meetings, the Board of Trustees has formed three Standing Committees, which have replaced Committees of the Whole. They are:
- Business Services Standing Committee
- Policy & Governance Standing Committee
- Student Achievement & Well-Being Standing Committee
Standing Committee meetings are open to the public and will receive delegations. Livestreaming will not occur, but recordings will be available online. More information on attending or viewing Standing Committee meetings can be found on the WRDSB website.
