1) Team players are privileged to represent Southwood S.S. and must conduct themselves as suitable ambassadors for our school at all times. All students are responsible to the principal for their conduct at any school events.

2) Players are expected to be conscientious students and good citizens of the school. Schoolwork missed because of athletic activities must be completed to the teacher’s satisfaction. Assignments due on game days must be handed in before attending competitions.

3) Southwood S.S. players will display good sportsmanship at all times when dealing with teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and spectators.

4) Strict adherence to rules while on buses or visiting other schools is expected.

5) In order to play on a specific game day, players must be in attendance at school, unless the coach had been forewarned of a valid reason, e.g., a doctor’s appointment. Players must participate fully in all classes on game days and arrange to write tests and evaluations at the classroom teacher’s discretion. Absences must be validated by the student/athlete’s VICE PRINCIPAL.

6) All injuries must be reported to the coach immediately.

7) Players are responsible for the safekeeping of their own valuables during practices and games.

8) Consumption, or being under the influence, of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or vape is forbidden at any time on any school premises or at any school-sponsored event. This policy also applies to all “free-time” (24 hours a day) the student may have while on an off-campus trip such as a tournament.

9) Once the commitment to a school team has been made, a player must follow through with this commitment. It is unfair to teammates and coaches to leave a team mid-season. It is also unfair to other aspiring players who have failed to earn a place on that team. Therefore, any student-athlete who quits or is dismissed from their team may be ineligible to play on any Southwood team for up to a year. The principal will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the appropriate consequence on a case-by-case basis. Any absence by the athlete from practice or a game should be discussed with the coach beforehand or as soon as possible, in the case of an emergency. Excessive absences from practice or games, as determined by the coach, may lead to the athlete’s removal from the team.

10) Student-athletes must fulfill their academic responsibilities. This includes not only their classes but also throughout the school and any school-sponsored activities. Any student-athlete not adhering to expectations of attendance, behavior, effort, and academics may lose their athletic eligibility. A student who is suspended from school may not practice or participate in any athletic endeavor for the duration of the suspension.
