We are so excited to welcome you to another exciting school year at Southwood Secondary School! 

Our school has over 700 students and a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities.  Our knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff can’t wait to meet you! They will be here to support you through your high school journey. 

Community and Connection at Southwood

  • This year we will be focusing on building community and connection to foster conditions for belonging, learning, and success.
  • As part of building community and connection at Southwood we will focus on reducing distractions in the learning environment.  Students will be expected to keep their cell phones away during instructional time.  

Timetables and Timetable Changes

  • Timetables for Semester 1 will be emailed directly to each student’s school email on Friday, September 4th.
  • Timetable changes will be made by appointment with the student’s guidance counsellor during the first 2 weeks of school. Pick up a Course Change Request Form in the Guidance Office. Students will be informed of their appointment via their school email and are asked to attend their assigned classes until their timetable change is complete. 

Annual School Forms

  • Electronic School Forms to be completed on School Day are available now. Please complete these as soon as possible.
  • Paper forms requiring the signature of a custodial parent/legal guardian will be distributed to students on Monday, September 14th to be returned in class or to the main office the following day.

First Day of School (Special Schedule)

  • Tuesday, September 8  – The official start of the school year will have an alternative schedule which allows us the important opportunity to welcome our grade 9 students to SSS.

Important Information for Grade 9 Students

      Chromebook Pick-up 

  • Grade 9 students who have opted in to receive a chromebook, will receive it during the first day of school. 
  • BBQ lunch will be provided for grade 9 students on the first day of school. Halal and Vegetarian options will be available.
